Representing City Council through art
In June, we introduced you to Jennie Vegt, who was selected for the position of artist in residence at the Office of the City Clerk. We recently had the opportunity to check in with Vegt at her studio in City Hall to see how she’s doing, three months in to the role.
Check out these photos of some Vegt’s works in progress:

Vegt’s studio is in the glass pyramid on top of City Hall, allowing lots of sunlight.

A portrait of City Councillor Tony Caterina in his office. Note the small statue of Councillor Caterina sitting on his desk in front of him-that’s a work by local sculptor Ritchie Velthuis, made as part of his “Neighbourhood Icons” series!

Vegt is working on a collaborative painting with staff in the Office of the City Clerk (in centre). Each staff member will get the opportunity to paint a City Councillor’s outfit in whatever creative way they see fit.
Painting of a public hearing.
We can’t wait to see how these projects turn out! Stay tuned to our blog or follow Vegt on twitter for updates and details regarding a final exhibition when Vegt’s residency is complete this winter.
